ACPK DISTRICT MEETING
Dear Mr. Russell,
I just wanted to give you a recap of the meeting held on April 10, 2012. We had a total of 21 members present at the April meeting. There were a total of 13 churches represented from the Atlanta-College Park district. The topics discussed were the fishing rodeo to be held at Sweetwater Creek sponsered by representative Rodger Bruce and the Atlanta-College Park district. The North Ga. conference Atlanta Braves night. The Rock Eagle retreat in Sept. , the golf tournment to be held in April on the 24th,the general conference, Umm leadership coucil meeting to be held on May 19th and the Annual North Ga. Conference June 12- 14.
We talk about what the charters in the district were doing. Ben Hill had a event at the Commerce Club in Feburary. During the month of April they will have their men's retreat in Peachtree City Ga. The event is called brother to brother. Bethel had a program called Men of God Standing United in Christ on Jan. 28th. President Larry Few of East Point First Mallieu spoke about their recent Men's day program. They always make an effort to get marque speakers. This years speaker was William Edwards. The theme was Men United Staying together as One. They have different levels of donations and they have raised over $100,000 dollars that has been given to the church in the last five years. The President of the conference Norman Johnson congratulated them for the excellent work they were doing.
Hoosier UMC President Walter Hairston talked about their men's day which will come in October. Last year they raised $23,000 thousand dollars on that day. They have 35 members who are excited and rejuvenated and ready to work.
Poplar Springs had their men's day and their speaker was Dr Hershal Robinson who was the former principal of Tri-Cities High School. Their men's day was very well attended and successful. The event took place the first week in March.
Columbia Drive UMC was represented President Jasper Russell and he talked about their Heritage Day celebration. They had over 200 people there at the church. Dr Walter Kimbrough was the speaker for the day. They had a wonderful selection of Southern Recipes.
There is a new charter in the district at Cliftondale UMC. They have a total of thirteen members that are active. I was formed after a member in the church heard about the organization within the methodist church.
At St. Mark UMC the men recently had one of it's long standing members to pass away in January. The men of St. Mark recently helped with the renovation of the church. The men also conducted their annual steak dinner. They had their recent church anniversary on April 15th at 2:30pm. The church is located at 85 Bay st. Fairburn, GA. The Rev. J.R. Moore is the Pastor of the church. They will be celebration 132 years.
Mike McMahon is from Redemption UMC and they are working to start a charter at their church. They are trying to get men involved along with getting with the young men in the church. They are working to expose the kids to positive role models and situations. Redemption is officially starting a charter. One program that they have is leading men to Christ. Mr. McMahon is also the technician in the audio visual dept. at Redemption. He teaches how to edit film & video thur his business. Mike can be reached at

The president of Ariel Bowen Memorial UMC Mr. Freddie Tanner talked about the programs the men of Ariel Bowen were working on. Which included a program called MEG (Men Embracing God). One of the speakers was Mr. Lawrence Sharard a member of Ariel Bowen and a local business owner in the community of Pittsburgh. Lawrence gave a brief chat about his 100% Man program. The Moto is To be a Man you must see a Man. The key is not to win the race, but to stay in the race. Lawrence is available at just about anytime to come talk about the program. Ariel Bowen also has their senior project program where they go out and help seniors in the church and the community with minor problems around the house. The Men's Day for Ariel Bowen will be the second Sunday in June.
Bethel UMC's Men's President Dr. Clyde Lord spoke of how they are using the strategic ministry plan in the implementing of their plans for the year. In March they hosted a disaster response training session at Bethel. Their Men's Day will be June 24th and the topic will be Doing the Word. Rev. Kimbrough will be the speaker for the event.
Mr. Russell spoke about the Prison Ministry and the Youth Mentoring Program. The program for youth is called Amachi and it is a mentoring program for youth who's parents are incarcerated. This program is endorsed by the bishop of the north ga. conference. They also have a list of youth who need mentoring at least one weekend a month. You can contact Mr. Terrence Johnson at 770-820-4843 if you would like to be a mentor to a child. Mr. Russell also spoke about the Stop Hunger Now campaign and how they distribute tons of potatoes through out the conference.
We must make sure that every man gets a copy of the stratigic ministry program.
